Are the expensive home steam cleaners worth the cost?

We're debating getting a new vacuum (hubby wants outrageously expensive Dyson) and maybe a steam cleaner like the Hoover All Terrain.

I don't know if it wouldn't just be better to hire Stanley Steamer a few times a year to do the job. I'm asking in Parenting because the whole reason we are needing all this for our carpets is our kids. I want to know how other parents with young children keep their floors clean.
Zorro, lol.
He's got allergies and the pets and all are adding to it. He's not one to complain so when he does I try to do something about it if i can. I just don't know if spending $1000 on carpet cleaning is the best way to use our money.

NO. I have had them come in. They essentially water down your carpet and use a soapy chemical to "clean the carpet". You are better off renting a Rug Doctor twice a year and cleaning yourself. You will be saving huge money and doing a much better job cleaning. Rug Doctors work awesome - BUT the key is using the right stuff in the rug doctor. There are several specialty products for cleaning stains. DO NOT BUY THESE - especially Oxy - I have heard horror stories about it. None of them work. They were all over priced, and never really clean the mess. They would either saturate the stains or mask any smell for a few days - granted you don't have a smell issue :) . The trick is to use something that will break down the stain. If the chemical is soapy, you are not breaking the stain apart. Instead you are just saturating it in the carpet. Believe me, I used everything you can think of. If you are just soaping stains up, the stain isn't going anywhere.

I now use one thing and one thing only to clean my carpets. Genesis 950 is an all purpose cleaner that actually breaks the bond of stains. It is designed to work with water to actually get in the stain. Once it does this, it fully breaks it apart. Using 950 in a steamer will totally clean your carpets. If you are not breaking the bond like 950 does, you do not get rid of stains. Look at any other questions posted on here about stains. They all say they cleaned and scrubbed but the stains are still there. It's cause other products don't break the stain apart.

Another plus to the product is it is environmentally friendly and non toxic so you don't have to worry about any issues with your kids.

I found 950 at a garage and bought it originally to remove paint that was stained in my carpets. Since then I have used it for nearly every cleaning dilemma I have had. Pet urine and vomit, a shattered bottle of A1 Steak sauce in the living room, muddy footprints, spilled drinks, you name it. If you can not find any near you, it is worth buying on line at www.amerikalstore.com
