why my dyson dc24 is poor at vacuuming cat hairs.?

Every thing seems to be working ok. filters have been cleaned, but the machine is a total failure at picking up cat hair and small bits of fluff. Annoying as I specially mentioned I had a cat and needed a good vac when I was sold this one.

Just a couple of questions, does it have positions for different floors, if yes set it a notch closer than what it was, also look at the bristles/rotating brush and see if that might need a good cleaning or if anything is caught.
