I want a Dyson, but which one?! Help me if you have one.?
I have only one small room with carpet, the other 3000 sq ft of house is tile or hardwood, with large area rugs in some of the rooms. I have a nonshedding dog and kids that track grit onto the hardwood. I am hoping to get one that picks up the grit from the floors well. All other cheap vaccuums I have just "kick" the dirt behind the vaccuum cleaner if I use it on the hardwood or tile floors. There are so many models, I am not sure what they are meant for. Thanks!
Hello, i am a vacuum technician at a local vacuum and sewing shop, so i have had allot of experience with all types of machines.
Dyson vacuums are very overrated. They have good cleaning right out of the box but will not last a long long time. They have poor filtration, very cheap design, and poor features. They do have a clutch which allows you to clean both carpet and hard floors which is nice but they have problems with scratching high gloss surfaces because they don't have high quality rubber wheels and they have cheap plastic with rough edges. If you're stuck on a dyson however, do not get any of the dyson "ball" machines. They are very poorly designed. Don't get the dco7 or the dc14 models, they are the first ones and are even worse. That leaves you wiht the DC17 but that retails for 549.00 and they are NOT WORTH IT!! For that amount of money you can get a much better vacuum.
If you don't mind, i would give you some advice. For a house with little carpet and all hardfloors, i would most definitely point you to a canister. Canisters are designed for had floor in mind. With the bare floor brush they clean hard floor much better then an upright (ie dyson). Plus you don't need a power head for your one room of carpet which means you can get a canister with a turbine head, which will lower your cost.
I would look for the Miele Neptune or Anteres. They are the same model but the Anteres is discontinued but probably still in stores.
The next model up is the Miele Pisces. All three of those is a great canister with filtration way beyond the dyson, cleaning power way beyond the dyson, and a 20 year lifetime. The neptune is about 500.00 and the pisces is 680.00.
Also the Riccar Moon light is a cheaper canister but does the trick. Also the Riccar Pizzaz or Riccar Charisma
I would suggest going to a vacuum store because there is actually allot to vacuums and honestly the dyson has great advertising but they just are junky vacuums. The best vacuums on the market are Sebo, Miele, and Riccar. Check'em out and good luck!!
