What is the best bang for your buck when buying a vacuum that is good with dog hair?

I'd like a Dyson, but it is not in the budget :) I have two long haired dogs that are both terrible shedders. Oh yeah, I have a couple cats too :) I have to vacuum about once a day.

I use a shop vac from Home Depot about $75 bucks and really gets it all! It has several attachments that are available as well. This machine made by Rigid is orange and black & grey you will only need the 12 gal. one as it is plenty big enough and really has the power to clean. It doubles as a wet/dry so handy to have on hand when you need that option. Also has a blower side to remove anything from the porches and garage areas! An unbeatable machine. BTW, sometimes they have them on sale and believe it or not got three of them for less than $30 each last year.
